Electric side-by-side UTVs can reduce noise, exhaust emissions and routine engine servicing, but the right choice depends on realistic range, charging access, payload and the conditions in which the vehicle will operate.
How should electric UTV range be assessed?
Published range is a useful comparison point, but real-world distance varies with payload, towing, speed, terrain, gradients, tyre pressure, temperature and driving style. Always compare the expected working cycle with a margin for changing conditions.
The standard eTuatara has a stated maximum range of up to 160 km, depending on driving conditions and payload. Mine-spec configurations are available with single- or dual-battery options and a stated range of 80–160 km depending on configuration and use.
Charging and daily operation
Consider where the vehicle will park, the electrical supply available and whether charging can occur between shifts or overnight. The eTuatara has a stated recharge time of approximately five to seven hours. A site should also have a practical charging procedure that accounts for shift patterns, cable management and vehicle availability.
Running and maintenance considerations
Electric drive removes engine-oil changes, exhaust-system servicing, air-intake servicing and carburation. Regenerative braking can provide useful engine-braking behaviour on inclines while returning some energy to the battery. Actual ownership cost will still depend on electricity pricing, tyres, brakes, battery use, scheduled inspections and the operating environment.
Capability and application fit
The eTuatara uses a 15 kW water-cooled electric motor, a high/low ratio transmission, selectable 2WD and 4WD and differential locks. The standard model has a stated maximum cargo capacity of 800 kg and towing capacity of 1,000 kg. These figures should be checked against terrain, payload distribution and the requirements of the specific site.
Standard or mine-spec configuration?
A standard electric UTV may suit agriculture, property maintenance and suitable industrial operations. Mining environments can require additional items such as isolators, high-visibility markings, UHF radio, external jump points, fire extinguisher, reverse beeper and certified protective components. Confirm the exact site standard before ordering.
