A petrol side-by-side UTV can be a practical choice when a job requires long operating hours, quick refuelling and dependable off-road capability. The right vehicle depends on how it will be used, the terrain it must cross and the loads it needs to carry or tow.
When does a petrol UTV make sense?
Petrol UTVs suit applications where access to charging is limited or where a vehicle may need to work across long shifts with minimal downtime. Common uses include farming, contracting, apiculture, horticulture, industrial sites, property maintenance, hunting and recreation.
What should you compare?
Passenger, cargo and towing requirements
Start with the people, tools and materials the vehicle must transport. Check seating, cargo-deck dimensions, maximum payload and towing capacity against your normal work—not just an occasional best-case load.
Terrain and drivetrain
Ground clearance, tyre construction, suspension, selectable two- and four-wheel drive and differential locks all influence off-road performance. Consider slopes, loose surfaces, mud, water crossings and the turning space available on site.
Engine, transmission and refuelling
Review engine output and transmission design alongside the type of work being performed. Petrol can be useful where fuel is already stored on site and the vehicle must be returned to service quickly after refuelling.
Safety and site requirements
Check occupant restraints, lighting, visibility, braking and any worksite-specific requirements. Mining and industrial sites may require additional equipment or documentation beyond a standard recreational or agricultural configuration.
Service and support
Ask about servicing intervals, parts availability, warranty support and who can assist after delivery. Whole-of-life support is as important as the initial specification.
Tuatara 1000 EFI overview
The Tuatara 1000 EFI uses a 1,000 cc water-cooled petrol engine producing 51 kW (69 hp), Bosch electronic fuel injection and a five-speed manual transmission. It has three independent seats, selectable 2WD and 4WD, high-grip tyres, 310 mm ground clearance and independent suspension.
